Day 4.
I am in love.
This strange and fascinating city has already captured the better part of my heart.
We took a tour of Paris at night starting at 8pm - 10:30pm. The bus took us from one arrondissement to the the next (that's how the city of Paris is divided, into circles/spirals, each has its own mayor but there is a central mayor as well). It's pretty amazing watching all the people along the streets of Paris. The women hurrying along in their high fashion boots on the Champs de Elysees and the men laughing and hugging each other as they told animated stories. There are couples holding hands and kissing all over the streets of Paris. The streets are lined with Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Lacoste, Chanel. As we drove on, the guide, a lady who spoke german, french, and english fluently, told us of the histories that reside in Paris. We saw the church in which the nun was shot in "The Da Vinci Code" and statues of the original lady of liberty! George Washington and Thomas Jefferson also found places in the heart of Paris. I found it strange they were statues there. We also saw Roger Federer but sadly I'm not that into tennis so the effect was a little lost on me. We passed by gothic cathedrals and roman churches. The magic, however, didn't start til we arrived at the Eiffel Tower.
Now I have seen the Eiffel Tower many times on TV, in the "Little World" in China, and pictures. It's a complete different experience to see it in person. It twinkled and shone brightly in the night. However, at 9pm there was still fairly enough light out. We took pictures which I will post later and sat on the stones outside of the Tower. We are going back again but to actually climb inside the tower soon! :D The feeling that came over me can not be described. It can only be felt by you when you come to Paris one day. It's a mix of content, excitement, life, magic, love, and warmth. Although it was 55 degrees outside and I had brought nothing but a light jacket.
I am getting tired so I will stop here. I promise there are more updates to come.
I don't want to leave this magical place tonight.
